Craig Johnson is a nature photographer based in Bethesda, Maryland. He’s drawn to quiet moments in the wild—especially the small, telling gestures of birds in their natural habitats. His images feel less like documentation and more like portraits, shaped by patience and close observation.

Before photography became his focus, Craig spent decades working as a professional biologist. That time—often spent alone in remote, silent places—deeply informs how he sees the natural world. He understands animal behavior, light, and landscape in a way that only comes from long experience. The result is work that feels intimate, restrained, and deeply respectful of the environments he photographs.
