Artist Showcase: Vlad Zabavskiy

Vlad Zabavskiy is a fine artist based in Vienna, VA, and a member of the Arlington Artists Alliance and DC Creative Guild. He merges painting and drawing to explore reality through fluid mediums of his own creation, capturing the alchemic essence of time and transformation. His fascination with architecture has led to a portrait series of 20th-century architects, currently on view at AIA|DC (Suman Sorg Gallery). While his primary focus is on mixed media and innovative materials, his experiments go beyond the search for a new artistic language.

To Vlad, life, the universe, space, and time exist as a constantly shifting, fluid process. His abstract series seeks to convey this essence through fluid mixed mediums—watercolor, acrylic, alcohol inks, and oil paints. To enhance the holographic experience of his work, viewers can use the 3D ChromaDepth glasses provided during the exhibition. Don’t miss his show at The Chesapeake Framing Co. this March, where Vlad’s innovative art will transport you to unseen dimensions.

This exhibition also features a selection of Vlad’s Oaxacan-inspired artworks, influenced by the rich cultural and visual traditions of Oaxaca, Mexico. These pieces incorporate vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and symbolic elements drawn from indigenous Zapotec heritage, further expanding his exploration of transformation and perception.

Vlad’s work has been exhibited locally at venues including the National Building Museum, Torpedo Factory Art Center, Gallery Underground, Touchstone Gallery, and Del Ray Artisans Gallery, and internationally at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France. His work has caught the attention of notable collectors, including the National Building Museum, Ann and Donald Brown, Marat Gelman, Antwayn Hopper, Guy Laliberté, Philippe Petit, Heather Podesta, and Robert Whitman.
